Hurray!! SWCWT have secured a £5,000 grant from Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership small grants scheme. The project ‘Love our Fruit and Nuts’ will run over two years and will be managed by Jenny Stephenson and Jools Cox, hopefully with volunteer help! The project aims to introduce more heritage fruit and nut trees to areas within the Galloway Glens Project, run Apple Day events, grafting and pruning courses, and hold a fruit and nut festival in October 2020. Love our Fruit and Nuts are also launching ‘ Discover Fruit and Nut Recipes’ an initiative to encourage everyone to create new, or find existing fruit and nut recipes using local seasonal produce. These recipes will be showcased at the 2020 festival with certificates for the best and most innovative! We would love local businesses to get involved so if you run a B&B, guest house, hotel, restaurant, get Creating and show what our unique Biosphere can produce. Schools can also get involved to so start asking grandparents for recipes or make up some of your own! Apple curd, damson cheese, walnut sauce, cherry conserve, fig jam, vegan nut cheese, gooseberry chutney. Just a few ideas to whet the appetite! Send recipes in to [email protected]
